Iranian Photographer and Artist Bahman Jalali: 1944-2010

Ustad Bahman Jalali was an internationally acclaimed photographer and renowned artist.  He had a gentle manner that touched all of those that came to know him, he was good hearted, observant, a private and simple man, but an expert in his field. He was liked and respected as a teacher and photographer by his colleagues, contemporaries and by his many students and without a doubt has influenced many young photographers deeply.  He was known as a war photographer and covered the Iranian Revolution, and published two books Khorramshahr and Days of Blood, Days of Fire. -1/16/10

Dr Hamid Reza Talakoub - A Wonderful Human and a Great Philanthropist
Dr Talakoub was a Harvard graduate and came from a distinguished family. His love for his beloved mother had him come back to Tehran and stay with her until his death in March. He started Bayan Salis 25 years ago and his utmost ambition was to make it the best place to learn a foreign language, in particular English, in Iran  - 1/4/10

Mehdi Sahabi (1943-2009): A Translator and an Artist
Mehdi Sahabi was born in 1943 in Ghazvin and died last week in Paris. He was buried last Thursday at the artists plot in Beheshte Zahra. Many well known art and literary figures were present for his funeral. He was one of Iran's best known and respected translators and usually translated from French but also from Italian and English.  - 11/21/09

Remembering Iranian Artist Iraj Zand
The whole of the Iranian art scene was in shock two years ago when we learned that Iraj Zand had passed away after a short illness. When we went to see the exhibition at the Golestan gallery which was to be his last, I asked about Iraj and was told that he was in hospital. So sadly and so suddenly he left this world, his art, and his wife Sayyeh and his son Mani.  - 11/25/08

Kaveh Golestan - Four years have gone by
On 2nd April 2003 we lost a distinguished and a highly accomplished Iranian photojournalist, Kaveh Golestan, at Kifri in Iraq. He was a freelance journalist who at the time of his death was working as a cameraman for the BBC when he stepped on a landmine as he was getting out of the BBC jeep.  - 3/30/07

We got to Qom just before 10am, the time we had arranged for the interview. We called to say that we may be a little late as we did not know our way around Qom. After a while, we parked the car in front of a narrow alley and walked to the address where we met the kind Ayatollah, at the head of another alley, waiting to lead us to his home.  - 2/7/05
